GRADES

Pre-primary
This group consists of children between 3-6 years of age. They may face conditions like hand-eye coordination problems, difficulty in balancing, sitting in one place, fine & gross motor activity problems, behavioural problems, etc. The special educator identifies & starts working on these problems. Activities like sand play, paper crumpling, puzzles, straw activities, arranging of buttons, clay activities, and sorting of objects are used to improve fine motor skills & gross motor development. Standing straight, walking, climbing, descending stairs, ball throwing & catching activities are reinforced as well. Life skill activities like indicating toilet urges, wearing/removing clothes, brushing one's teeth, washing hands, and eating by self are practised. In academics, scribbling, joining dots, identifying matching of objects, fruits, animals, etc are taught. Saying numbers and rhymes are implemented. Also music, dance, playing, and different art activities are used regularly to improve self confidence.

Care Group
This group is dedicated to those children, irrespective of their age, who have very severe forms of disability. Children selected in the early intervention program can also be a part of this group. Every child in this group receives one on one attention and support. They are totally dependent on others for their daily activities. Along with physiotherapy, various sensory development and motor development activities are implemented. In this group, participation and involvement of the parent or caretaker of each child is very important. Activities like holding objects, lifting objects, feeling and understanding various textures, playing with toys, and listening to music are used to increase engagement.

Primary-I
Students from 7-10 years old are included in this group. Those who achieve 80% of items in pre-primary checklist are promoted to primary-1. Each child is set with goals according to his/her needs and abilities with the consent of their parents. Personal skills like tooth brushing, toilet skills, wearing/removing clothes, eating neatly and other skills are again reinforced. Also identification of body parts and usage of appropriate social manners like using 'thank you', 'Please', 'sorry' etc, are also taught. Reading and writing simple words like those of vegetables, fruits, animals, colours is taught. Self introduction and Writing self information, saying numbers, simple addition, subtraction, identifying days, months, year, numbers on a clock, money, colour, and shape identification is also part of the curriculum. Additionally, household domestic activities like peeling of vegetables, wiping off table, and washing dishes are taught. Puzzles, art & craft, music, group games, rhymes, dance activities are practiced.

Primary-II
Children who achieve less than 80% of items in pre-primary checklist are admitted in primary-II class. They remain in this class until the age of 14. Compared to primary-I class, these children require more consistent training in their goals to make them independent in basic daily living activities. Depending on their needs, abilities and level, goals are selected. Using modified techniques and play, the teaching-learning process takes place. Activities such as climbing or descending a staircase, holding a glass of water, drinking liquid without spilling, eating by self, wearing or removing clothes, tooth brushing, toileting, etc. are taught. Social skills like greeting, asking permission and appropriate social manners are taught. Also self introduction and talking in proper simple sentences is also practiced. Academics include pre-writing and pre-reading skills like holding a pencil, scribbling, etc. Also puzzles, games, and activities are used along with physiotherapy for those who require.

Secondary
Students after achieving 80% items in primary - I checklist are promoted to secondary class. In personal skills it is seen that the child becomes independent in his or her daily living skills like toilet skills, bathing, wearing, removing, and folding of clothes, grooming, washing clothes and utensils, etc. Also gender identification and appropriate behavior, cleanliness, hygiene, safety skills are taught. Communicating meaningfully in society, and appropriate social behavior in community places like the market, garden, restaurants, and neighborhoods are practiced. In academics, basic reading and writing skills are taught. Languages, Math, and General Knowledge are the various areas of teaching. Furthermore, time, money, and weighing concepts are taught. Reading stories and newspapers is encouraged. Also activities like sweeping, mopping, wiping, and domestic activities like cutting and peeling vegetables are taught. Simple cooking activities like making salads, juice, tea, coffee, sandwiches, etc., are practiced. For all-round development, music, dance, theater, arts and crafts, and sports activities are practiced.

Pre - Vocational
Students from 15-16 years old are included in this category. They are either mild, moderate, or slow learners. Activities like bathing, shaving for boys, menstrual hygiene for girls, proper washing, and ironing clothes are practiced. To some students, exposure to banks, post office, markets, and restaurants is given. They are encouraged to present themselves appropriately and decently in society. Participation in social activities is encouraged. In academics, reading and writing simple sentences, addition, subtraction, time, and money its application are taught, including buying essentials from the market and making money transactions. Posting letters and using debit cards is taught to certain students. Household activities like sweeping, mopping, cooking daily meals, washing utensils, and using household appliances like the iron, mixer, blender, etc. are also taught.
